Admission to various programmes in the college is made strictly on the basis of merit [estimated by an index approved by the University of North Bengal and subject to such eligibility criteria and conditions as laid down by the College Authority].
The following regulation related to admission to B.A./B.Sc. (Three Years General and Honours) courses must be strictly observed:
1. A student may be admitted to B.A./B.Sc. Threes years Degree Course (General/Honours) after passing the Higher Secondary Examination in the general stream conducted by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education in 10+2 pattern after a period of 12 years study or an examination recognized as equivalent by the appropriate authority provided he/she passed at least in five subjects with English as a compulsory subject.
Provided that no candidate shall be allowed to take up any subject in B.Sc. if he has not passed in the corresponding subject(s) at the Higher Secondary Examination recognized as equivalent by the appropriate authority.
1. (a) No candidate shall ordinarily be allowed to take up Physics unless he/she has passed in Mathematics and Physics at the qualifying examination.
(b) A candidate may be allowed to take up Botany if he/she has passed in Botany or Biology at the qualifying examination.
(c) A candidate may be allowed to take up Zoology if he/she has passed in Zoology or Biology at the qualifying examination.
(d) A candidate may be allowed to take up Geography if he/she has passed in Geography at the qualifying examination.
(e) A candidate may be allowed to take up Economics as honours subject if he/she has passed in Mathematics or Business Economics including Business Mathematics at the qualifying examination.
(f) A candidate must take Chemistry as an elective for study in Microbiology Honours.
(g) A candidate may be allowed to take up Computer Science as honours subject if he/she has passed in Mathematics or Physics at the qualifying examination.
(h) A candidate may be allowed to take up Microbiology if he/she has passed in Chemistry and Biology at the qualifying examination. (i) No student shall be allowed to take up more than one of the following as Elective Subject: English, Bengali, Hindi, Nepali, Sanskrit.
3. (a) Those candidates who would obtain either (i) 45 percent marks in the aggregate or (ii) 40 percent in the aggregate and 50 percent marks in the subject in the qualifying examinations will be eligible to apply for admission to Honours courses in the College affiliated to this University. Admission to courses would be subject to availability of seats. Provided that for S.C/S.T. candidates the minimum marks for eligibility shall be 5 percent less. (b) In the matter of eligibility to apply for admission to Honours Courses 44.5 percent marks or above shall be treated as 45 percent marks and 49.5 percent parks or above shall be treated as 50 percent.
After admission every student is to get himself/herself registered with the University of North Bengal. Admission of a student migrating from an Academic Board or University other than West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or the University of North Bengal remains provisional and as such is liable to cancellation if the Migration Certificate and other necessary documents are not submitted in due time or the University of North Bengal does not approve the migration.
MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION
The medium of instruction in the College is English & Bengali. Only language papers are taught in respective language. For College Examinations (except Hindi, Nepali, Elective Hindi and Elective Nepali language papers) answer must be written in either English or Bengali. Answer scripts in any other language will not be considered for evaluation.
